I hate the atrocities, but I like that this "hockey culture" is being exposed so that changes can be made going forward so that it is safer to play for everyone. Coconuts
I thought this looked familiar, there was a CDC thread Hopefully something comes of it
Popular Post King Heffy
Put Rick Westhead in the HHOF. For all the complaints about the media, he's done so much to expose the dark side of the sport and push for a positive change to the culture. 2 3

Strawbone
Damn, those are some sick and twisted allegations. I really hope that kind of thing wasn't actually commonplace, and there's only going to be a handful of reports like this. Because Hockey is going to be a seriously tarnished sport otherwise. 1

I do think it was, and maybe is, more commonplace than we'd like to believe Particularly as you look at decades past

This isn't just hockey, this is a high end team sports issue. Hazing was definitely a thing widely accepted back in the day, by everyone for every sport. Not just a hockey issue, we just see it because we're in Canada and it's our number 1 sport.
Don Brodka Jr
Buddy is describing HAZING! That shit has been in Sports for DECADES! I've played on several sports teams growing up.. Shit like this ALWAYS happens in the locker rooms. Nothing is ever done about it unless you do what Akim Aliu did back in the day to Steve Downie.. You fight your way out! Popular Post Jess
Hard for me to fathom this hazing garbage. I always wanted to play hockey on a team growing up, but could never afford it. When I hear stories like this, I realize that I was maybe spared a scarring experience. 1

I quit hockey by the time I was about 12-13 switched to lacrosse full time only hazing we came across was going through the gauntlet in practice, run through the whole team next to the boards while getting cross checked one by one. Fun harmless hazing, non of the humiliating stuff. Towel whips after shower just stupid harmless stuff.

Yeah, it's mostly the more extreme stuff like forcing guys to watch porn and masturbate that's crazy to me. Mild things aren't particularly harmful I'd think.

You fight your way out! All hazing is not equal. Something being a thing for decades doesn't necessarily mean it's good or positive. That doesn't mean it should. Teenagers and young men shouldn't have to be fighting to be treated with the bare minimum of civilized respect.

It's becoming clear that there needs to be some adult supervision for these kids that isn't directly affiliated with the team.
HorvatToBaertschi
Sounds a lot like Carcillo's stories. Hockey culture is sickening.

I agree, I'm not condoning Hazing of any degree but what my post was trying to explain was judging from my experience seeing it in locker rooms it's no different then a bully. You have to stand up for yourself and fight back. It doesn't always go your way but I've been part of teams where even The coaches/adults around you will tell you to deal with the conflicts amongst yourself. Early 80’s I fought just about everyone on my own team just to avoid that bs… was out of junior hockey in one year. Was in the hospital overnight after getting the crap kicked out of me by teammates… if it’s not hard enough to leave home and go stay with a billet family a couple provinces away, and then deal with fitting ion and hazing etc. learned about alcohol and cocaine though and I struggled for the next eight years with addiction… just when I think things have improved a lot I find out it is still going on
Kevin Biestra
Did people think the junior hockey hazings in Youngblood were conjured out of thin air.
