Wonder how this would have affected things right now if it panned out and we signed him.

His contract expires at end of this season and apparently he's not interested in extending in CGY.

He's also a MIllstein client...

Flames Rumors: 2 Teams Targeted Nikita Zadorov This Offseason

Michael DeRosa Saturday, October 14, 2023

According to The Fourth Period, Nikita Zadorov generated interest from the Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers this offseason.

The Canucks ended up improving their blue line, adding Carson Soucy and Ian Cole. However, it is not a secret that bringing in Zadorov would have been quite beneficial for them. He is exactly the kind of defensively-sound and hard-nosed d-man who would have made the Canucks harder to go up against. Don't be surprised if they pursue him again.

As for the Panthers, they added many d-man this summer, including Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Mike Reilly. Yet, acquiring Zadorov would have also been great for them. He would have fit nicely on their second pairing and been a key part of their penalty kill.

We will need to wait and see if these two clubs pursue Zadorov this season if made available by the Flames.

Could play right side with Hughes. Would also be a solid long term Hronek partner.

It almost all makes too much sense

Haha no chance.

CGY would try to bend us for Zadorov.
I think best bet is to wait until he’s UFA again in offseason and expect to sign him for 4-5mill with N-MTC.

Millstein/Gold Star is our in. I hope we take advantage.

Hell ya, tho Garland may actually be some help to them. They need to replace some offence on the wing. They are pretty deep defensively. But Hanafin may walk too…so you’re probably right lol

If the Flames look competitive I can't see them trading Zadorov. But, if they struggle early there could be one hell of a fire sale as they try to get value back for Zadorov, Hanifin, Tanev, and Lindholm before losing them all as UFAs.

I hope he’s not seeking 7 or 8 years. Would love to have him for around 4 or 5 million per year.

If he’s seeking 7-8 M a year, he’ll be unemployed.

Would be sooooo nice to have him this season though. That said, we will be better positioned cap wise next offseason. Someone posted in another thread that we should have about 6mill (after factoring in raises to EP and Hronek and our expiring  contracts off the books). We could afford Zadorov with ease then. Now though -  we’d absolutely have to move Garland out, which might cost us.

Soooo Zaddy would be great, but to make room just for him right now is a bit of a logistical and asset nightmare when you factor in Garland and especially when trying to make a deal with CGY.
