[GDT] Around the NHL [November 2023]

Another month, another slew of hockey games. Only two days throughout November won't feature a hockey game, so there's lots to follow going forward.

The first iteration of this thread on CFF has done pretty well as far as monthly activity has gone, figured I'd throw this up again for the month of November. It's a continuation of the monthly format as opposed to the weekly format Vintage used to implement.

December Around the NHL Sign-Up

I don't anticipate being around CFF as much towards the end of November and through the first half of December, so if someone is willing to take on December's Around the NHL thread that'd be great.

How to GDT

1. Copy and paste the header from this thread and slap it into your thread, Vintage always used it so I figure it's worth continuing

2. Write whatever you wanna

3. Maybe include a sign up section to source someone to throw up the following month's Around the NHL thread

4. Just screen shot the daily schedules and slap them into a spoiler similar to what I've done, you may have to adjust your resolution for game days that feature more teams playing, you can get all the week to week scheduling here https://www.nhl.com/schedule/2023-11-29

Flyers have had a promising start to the season, this could definitely put a damper on that if he's out for any length of time.

I thought they were doing well too, until I saw their record.

They will miss Hart though.

Ducks youth are really impressing, they're really contributing.

Dostal picks up his fifth win in six games, Carlsson picks up his third goal in six games (three goals, one assist), McTavish picks up another assist (five goals, seven assists in ten games), Mintyukov continues to make what seems to be a seamless transition and grabs another assist (one goal, six assists in ten games).

Terry stepped up with a hatty and an assist, he was the main driver, but these young Ducks are impressing thus far.

Worth noting is they're doing this all without Zegras, I said the other day that they've been very impressive given him and Terry hadn't been lighting it up. Terry's bounced back though and is up to five goals and three assists in ten games, Zegras has two points on the season. If Zegras can get going and the others can keep it up we may have a divisional dark horse this season in Anaheim.

I don't expect it to last, but Anaheim has been a bottom team for a while and this start has to be encouraging for them as an organization.

Not surprised to see Anaheim and Arizona out of the gates early, they have a lot of good young offensive talent which usually carries a team quite far at the start of the season but eventually the wheels fall off. Anaheim's not defending particularly well and that will haunt them eventually but it's exiting to see these kids come together and score well. Their GMs are going to have to go out and get some solid defencemen at some point to stabilise their teams. I'd expect them to drop off around the 30-40 game mark.

Zegras has made some small, but significant strides at the start of this season.  He is making the right plays and creating chances.  His offensive impact is still very high.

But the most notable difference is his defending.  He is backchecking on plays and his stats show it.  He is leading the team in expected goals against, compared to last year where he was one of the worst culprits.

They are winning because of Trevor Zegras.

I suppose that's maybe a fairer look at it, I mostly considered his lack of individual production which has been a bit surprising

Looking forward to the day he's out of the league.  His dirty plays will always overshadow his elite skill.  Guys like him make the game worse not better.

Yip. He
