Normally, when a team plays a losing team, there's the possiblity that the better team will overlook/underestimate the losing team and then lose themselves.

The problem for Detroit is that since they are on such a long historic losing streak, no team wants to be the team to lose to them.  So teams are probably getting up for the games against the Pistons.

Their next 3 games are against Brooklyn, Boston and Toronto. I can see them beating the Raptors…but who knows

So they lose to Boston on Thursday and we get a possible history making (in a bad way) game against the Raptors on Saturday.

Aaron Gordon away from Nuggets after dog bite to face, hand

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39192285/aaron-gordon-away-nuggets-dog-bites-face-hand

DENVER -- Nuggets forward Aaron Gordonneeded 21 stitches after suffering lacerations to his face and right shooting hand while being bitten by a family dog on Christmas.

The Nuggets announced in a statement that the 28-year-old Gordon "is in good condition" but will remain away from the team. There's no concrete timeline for his return, but there's optimism that his absence will be short-term, a source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Gordon is averaging 13.6 points and 6.9 rebounds for the defending NBA champions. He had 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 120-114 win over Golden State on Christmas.

"He's hanging in there," Nuggets coach Michael Malone said after practice Wednesday. "Obviously, a very traumatic experience and the most important thing I told him is that you take as much time as you need. We're a family -- wins, losses, and when people go through tough times like Aaron's going through right now.

"We have his back. We love him. We're here for him. So whenever he's able to come back, we're going to open our arms up and embrace him. I told all the guys to make sure they're reaching out to him, to make sure he's never feeling like he's on an island."

The Athletic first reported details of the incident.

The Nuggets are off to a 22-10 start in their quest to repeat as champions. Gordon, who shoots with his right hand, won't be rushed back to the court.

"We need him to heal inside and out," said Malone, whose team hosts Memphis on Thursday. "Going through something like that is not something you come back from easily. That's something where you have to heal from the physical, but you also have to heal from the mental and what you just kind of went through.

"We want him back. We know we're better off with him. But I want to support Aaron Gordon and make sure when he comes back, he's ready to come back and play at the level that we know he's capable."

Teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope said he was planning to reach out to Gordon after finding out the news at practice.

"He just uplifts everybody that comes in when he's around them," Caldwell-Pope said. "We've got to do the same for him."

The Nuggets were without Gordon for five games earlier this season because of a strained right heel. They also played without point guard Jamal Murray for more than a dozen games as he dealt with ankle and hamstring issues.

"To our players' credit, whether it was Jamal being out, whether it's Aaron being out, whoever it is, our guys have stepped up," Malone said. "It speaks to the quality of our depth. We have guys that are stepping up and taking advantage of any and all opportunities."

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39198084/sources-alex-rodriguez-marc-lore-timberwolves-majority-owners

Sources: Alex Rodriguez, Marc Lore to acquire majority of Timberwolves, Lynx

Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez are expected to exercise their option to acquire controlling ownership interest of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA's Lynx as soon as Thursday, sources told ESPN.

Lore and Rodriguez, who have a Dec. 31 deadline, will be formalizing an intent to purchase a final 40% of the NBA and WNBA franchises from Glen Taylor -- giving Lore and Rodriguez 80% total of the two teams by early 2024, sources said.

Lore and Rodriguez still have more time to raise the necessary money to complete the majority purchase, which will be subject to NBA board of governors approval.

This filing is expected to close a process that began in April 2021 for Lore and Rodriguez to purchase the Timberwolves and Lynx in installments from Taylor. Lore and Rodriguez previously purchased two installments of 20% at a $1.5 billion valuation for the franchise.

As the ownership transfer is completed, the Timberwolves are engaged in their best season in history -- 22-7 and the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Under Lore and Rodriguez's growing influence, the Timberwolves hired away Denver Nuggets GM Tim Connelly as president, and his trades for Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley have played a significant part in the franchise's rise to an elite level.

Taylor, who purchased the franchise in 1994, keeps a 20% share in the team -- with an option to sell the rest to Lore and Rodriguez later.

I barely follow the NBA but why would you sign a guy who is never healthy in the post-season? He was incredible years ago but he and George are never there at the end of the season.
