Rocket-68 Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 (edited) Yes, the Coilers and do we really want to help them? It is a slow day today so musing a bit. Oilers need to move Jack Campbell's contract to free up cap space to try and acquire a legit #1 goalie. Came across an interesting story where the Oilers are apparently willing to add Phillip Broberg as a sweetener to move Jack Campbell's contract Source: https://www.habslatest.com/nhl/trades/Oilers-Reveal-the-Shocking-Sweetener-Theyd-Add-to-Trade-Jack-Campbell-it-May-Be-Too-Good-to-Pass-Up-for-Kent-Hughes So, To: Vancouver Jack Campbell Phillip Borberg To: Edmonton The much travelled Future Considerations ... who knows what that is In parallel, Vancouver then moves Jack Campbell to a team that will take him for the purposes of buyout but retains 50% of the salary on JC along with a low round pick. Is this something Vancouver would even consider and if so, where would Phillip Borberg fit in given he may even be considered a bit of reclamation project. I think he has a bit of upside but has to be measured against what is in the pipeline. Who says no? I would lean Vancouver would but interesting concept. Edited December 22, 2023 by Rocket-68 Quote
Bob Long Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Too much risk in being stuck with Soup. Plus fuck Mcbaby. 1 1 Quote
qwijjibo Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 First off, it'll take way more than that to for Edmonton to dump Campbell. Vancouver wouldn't touch this. Second. Cap? The only reason the Canucks have any cap space right now is Soucy is on LTIR. Vancouver could technically fit Campbell's contract atm, but as soon as he returns from injury (let's say in a month) the cap space goes away and Vancouver would have huge problem 1 Quote

Is it possible to immediately buyout someone mid-season? It pretty sure one can. Anyway, interesting concept. Edited December 22, 2023 by Rocket-68 Quote

That's the only time you can buy out a player. So this isn't really a workable scenario at all unless you're sending offsetting cap the other way 1 Quote

flickyoursedin Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Awful proposal. There’s also a reason Broberg is in the AHL and not the NHL. It’s not like he’s a can’t miss prospect! To take on Campbell’s 5 mill cap hit for a prospect Dman who isn’t looking great and has requested a trade. We don’t have the cap space for this trade and quite frankly I would only think about Campbell if they attached Broberg and 2 1rst round picks. Remember Campbell is in the AHL and isn’t even doing good there! Quote
