The Bernabéu renovations are getting close to finished.  Thought I'd share this.

Not a Real fan (or any Spanish side for that matter) but that is an impressive stadium. Would love to take in a match there....

Ya, the set up they have for their retractable pitch is crazy.

Makes Old Trafford look more and more like a dump while the Etihad is getting bigger and better.

Barca totally rebuilding their ground as well.

I saw the retractable pitch but I didn't have the audio on....it has to be artificial turf, right?

It's likely a mixture, like a lot of pitches at that level.  Probably similar to what Tottenham uses for their retractable pitch.

Topsy-turvy league

Man City draw with Liverpool and a late winner by Kai Havertz puts Arsenal on top for the weekend.  Big match between Spurs and Villa early tomorrow.

Everton has to get a result against ManU to keep pace with the clubs just out of the relegation spots as Luton and Bournemouth both won.

Nice away win for Villa.  Villa 4th, tied with Liverpool on points.  2 off the leaders Arsenal.  Who would have thought they'd be here when Stevie G was let go.

An offside hat-trick for Son.  Something you don't see very often.

UEFA Champions League Matchday 5 done and dusted.

Arsenal spanked Lens 6 - 0 and got through as group winner.  Man City are easily through as group winner as well.

Newcastle's 1 - 1 draw with PSG means they still have a chance to advance with good results in the final matchday in December.

Man U are last in their group with the bungle job 3 - 3 draw at Galatasaray.  They will need to defeat Bayern at home and HOPE that Galatasaray vs Copenhagen go to a draw on the final matchday in December.

The wheels of justice turn slowly:

Man City 'discover date' they will stand trial and finally face 115 Premier League charges

According to the Daily Mail, a date for the case to be heard has been set for the late autumn of 2024. A verdict is unlikely to be delivered until the end of next season in the summer of 2025, when boss Pep Guardiola's contract is due to expire.

Part of the problem is the sheer number of documents that are likely involved.  Everton's case involved some 28,000 documents ( https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/nov/18/everton-fans-view-premier-leagues-10-point-penalty-simply-doesnt-add-up ).  And Everton faced far fewer charges than what City are charged with.

That being said, City was charged early this year.  Over 18 months before even a trial seems a bit much.

So Everton got a 10 point deduction for violating FFP rules.

At least 3 clubs are in talks about planning to sue Everton.

The points deduction now puts Everton 19th place, tied with Burnley at the bottom with 4 points.  Sheffield United are in 18th with 5 points.  Luton Town are in 17th with 6 points and currently above the drop.  Bournemouth are in 16th with 9 points.

This deduction puts them right back in the relegation battle, but their recent form gave them a bit of a cushion to absorb this 10 point deduction.  For their sake, I hope they crawl out of the drop and not have their final season at Goodison Park in the Championship.

Burnley, Leeds and Leicester plan to SUE Everton for £300MILLION after Toffees were found guilty of breaking Premier League spending rules

By MATT HUGHES FOR MAILONLINE

PUBLISHED: 08:41 EST, 17 November 2023 | UPDATED: 09:18 EST, 17 November 2023

Burnley, Leeds and Leicester have confirmed their intention to sue Everton for a total of £300million after the club were found guilty of breaching financial fair play rules.

Mail Sport has learned that senior figures at the three clubs held talks this afternoon to reaffirm their plans to sue after the Premier League confirmed Everton's guilty verdict and 10-point deduction, the biggest in the competition's history.

The aggrieved trio are understood to have agreed to follow through on their previous threats to sue Everton, which they formulated over the summer after Sean Dyche's side narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of the campaign by just two points.

Leeds and Leicester were relegated to the Championship and Burnley have leant their support as they remain convinced that Everton's spending breached financial rules the previous season when they were relegated.

The three clubs have repeatedly expressed unhappiness that the Everton case was not dealt with last season and are understood to feel even more strongly following the guilty verdict, as a points deduction in the previous campaign would have relegated them.

Dyche's side can still survive this season as despite losing 10 points they are only two points from safety with over two-thirds of the season remaining.

Mail Sport revealed last month that Burnley, Leeds and Leicester had written a joint letter to the Premier League notifying them of their plans to sue if Everton were found guilty.

The £300m figure is based on a rough estimate of the £100m each club believes they lost by being relegated to the Championship.

The prospect of facing joint legal action from three other clubs is another significant blow for Everton, and could derail the planned takeover from American investment firm 777 Partners.

The punishment brightens the spotlight on both Manchester City and Chelsea and a former advisor to City tweeted that the precedent set by Everton's penalty could later result in relegation for both Premier League heavyweights.

They need a salary cap.

That's what FFP regulations are for.  The issue is promotion/relegation.   Clubs are supposed to spend within their means, and mismanagement should result in relegation.  Well run clubs should be able to rise.  Brentford and Luton for example.   Clubs who break the rules should be punished.  Man City going to get their day next year.

Missed it.  But I'm guessing Wrexham gets a bigger worldwide audience than some lesser Premier League clubs.

I can't imagine Sportsnet broadcasting that game if Reynolds and McElhanney hadn't bought the team and turned it into an FX series.

Just brutal weather at the Racecourse for that match, too....looked like it was just hovering above zero and pissing down....
