Popular Post Rocket-68
To get started ... working on the game day thread ... more to post momentarily ... taking an extended coffee break to do some "work" at work. If anyone is already doing this, ping me and can stop. Overview Well now, this is a must win game for the Canucks if for nothing else than to show "don't like us to have a full compliment of players so suspend one, F-U, we will still win". Other reasons include: (1) pad the stats, (2) win all the tie-breakers, (3) get the team into playoff mode now and (4) let the rest know the Canucks are here to play, better bring your A-game! First vs Worst - if that doesn't light a fire under the 'Nucks asses, nothing will. These "easy" games are all too often the ones that bite you as teams tend to look past to the flight home, the next game or the kabob waiting for them back at the hotel - DON'T DO IT BOYZ! I have faith the coaches will have them dialed in. Blackhawks are holding a stellar record of 6 straight losses and are contemplating fielding their AHL squad in hopes of another #1 overall pick. Question of the day: Will Woo jet into the lineup or will he have to be satisfied with a bump in pay while watching from the press box? Sadly, probably the latter but one can hope. I certainly would like to see Woo-Hoo get a shot in the big leagues - even if he only played one game that would be one game more than 99.9% of the fans of our beloved Canucks ever will so can live vicariously through Jet-Blast. Keys to winning the game: (1) DO NOT GIVE UP THE FIRST GOAL would be a great start (2) see #1 please, (3) stay out of the penalty box as the 'Hawks are 3-17-1 when the opposition takes less penalties and (4) press the Blackhawks hard into taking penalties and let the Canucks PP do the heavy lifting. Quote of the day: "Interesting" opined Tocchet when asked about the Canucks coming off of back-to-back losses. WELL STATED, COMPELLING ANALYSIS - GIVE THE PUNDITS NOTHING TO WORK WITH ... Tocchet channeling Darryl Sutter who famously said "he has a body injury" when asked what was wrong with one of his players after a playoff game. A Random Hockey Story Spoiler All Hockey, All the Time How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it! ... Geroge Elliston “Close your eyes, Jordan, and don’t peek,” I said, leading my six-year-old son up the stairs to his room. “Your dad has been working on your room all day.” I led Jordan into his room and instructed him to open his eyes. My son gasped and said, “My room looks like a hockey rink!” It was true. His dad had painted the baseboards yellow and the chair rail red. The floor was complete with center ice and the blue lines on each side. It probably wasn’t the best thing for the resale value of our home, but my son positively loved it. “I did the walls and the floor,” his dad explained, “but there’s still some decorating to do.” Jordan grinned. “It has to be hockey stuff. I want my room to be all hockey, all the time.” He already had the NHL sheets and comforter set. He had a shelf full of pucks from games he’d been to and dozens of miniature Zamboni machines of various sizes. He even had a trophy he’d won when his own hockey team had had an especially good season. Jordan looked around. “There’s already a lot of hockey stuff in here,” he said. “But I need something to hang on that wall.” Our family held season tickets to the local minor league hockey team, the Indianapolis Ice. Jordan loved to wait outside the locker room after games so he could talk to the players.“ Maybe I should get all the players’ autographs But his room wasn’t finished yet. During one of our post-game sessions, Jordan was telling one of his favorite players about his new room.“ Well, how would you like a game stick to hang on your wall?” Jordan’s mouth dropped open. “You’d give me your stick?” “Sure, after the last game of the season, remind me and I’ll give it to you,” he said. “I’ll even sign it for you.” Jordan jumped up and down and hugged the player. He talked about little else in the coming weeks. But on the day of the final home game of the season, Jordan woke up with the stomach flu. “Buddy, we’re not going to be able to make it tonight,” I said softly.“ But what about my stick? If I’m not there, Nate will give it to another kid. He might think I forgot or I didn’t want it after all.” “I know, buddy,” I said, stroking his hair. “But you’re too sick to go to the hockey game.” Jordan tried playing “Let’s Make a Deal” with me all day. “If I eat lunch and keep it down, can we go tonight?” “I’m sorry, honey, but you’re just too sick,” I said. “But my stick, Mom,” he said. “I have to be there. That stick will be the most important part of my room.” Through sheer willpower, Jordan managed to control his tummy for the rest of the day. So against my better judgment, I took him to the game. I could hardly focus on the game because I was so concerned about him. But he was fine, and when the final buzzer sounded he practically tan to the locker room to collect his prized stick. When Nate came out, he was already holding his stick. He winked at me and said, “Got a marker, Jordan?” Jordan handed him his well-used Sharpie and watched as his favorite player signed his game stick and handed it over. “I went through a lot to be here tonight,” Jordan said, telling the story of his stomach bug.“I hope it was worth it,” the player said with a grin. “Are you kidding me?” Jordan said. “This is the best day of my whole life! Between your stick and all my pictures of the players, I have the best room in the whole world!” Jordan’s room, like Jordan’s life, was indeed all hockey, all the time. HorvatToBaertschi
Chicago plays a low-event defensive style. They don't give up much goals, and Mrazek is having a strong season. This is the first time in quite some time that the worst team in the league is actually not a free win. You have to gut it out against them, and I respect that a lot. If the players show up (and I know they will), we can end this road trip on a bit of a high, after the low low after the Boston game. I hardly ever predict scores but I'm gonna go with 5-1 Nucks, with a strong game from CaseyD 1
