F the leafs lock it up no leaf talk here, go to twitter for that shit, that’s all you see how they are linked to 99% of the league

Pump the brakes.

I'm pretty sure this is a part of the forum which covers the league.

Leafs hate or no, it's open for discussion here.

Seems they're reluctant to part with their 1st for once

Walker may be too expensive for them too, gotta think he'd garner a 2nd and they don't have one

What are they waiting for? Leafs are a 2 game losing streak from being out of the wildcard

burning a 1st on a rental and then missing the playoffs is inexcusable. they have to make sure they have a chance in hell at a run if they're moving that asset.

Off season is where they need to get together and trade two of their top players.

That way they could get one younger player back to play right away and one that's a hard working checker.Plus a pic or two.

Do that with two of their top 5 and they could get cap to actually have three scoring lines.

Blaming that team's poor defence on the core is so unbelievably lazy at this point.  The entire strategy of Toronto is to relentlessly push the pace of the game with an all-out-attack.  O-zone pressure is structured around it.  Neutral zone transitions are structured around it.  D-zone coverage is structure around it.  They use a box+1 D-zone coverage but lack the communication needed to properly handle opponent switches (ie. high scissor plays that Quinn Hughes loves to initiate), and get burned on it.  That is a Sheldon Keefe problem.  That is a  Brad Treliving problem, who spent $16M in the summer on guys who've never played defence.

Ridiculous blaming the top guys.

So how do the Canucks do it? The Core is the problem there. its all about the relentless pursuit of Matthews scoring more goals than McDavid. Keep it up they might kmiss the dance altogether. Team Defense is exactly that. TEAM defense. The leafs dont have anyone committed to it thus the lack of success in the playoffs.  The core four are the worst offenders

So give Willy all the money, etc. but protect that bottom half of the first round pick like your franchise depends on it?

The leafs are not even close to having the strength to make it anywhere in the playoffs. They shouldn’t trade any futures

It's fun watching them be good in the regular season with all the hype around them just to stink it up in the playoffs year after year. Their tears are so sweet.

But their going to the basement soon and going to stay there for a decade like we did. I will get no pleasure from watching that pity party. I want all of the Canadian teams to do well and be relevant. As long as we are the first to bring the cup home since I was a child building tinfoil statues on top of my TV so I could get a glimpse the game on broadcast.

Go to TSN top of the page Leaf’s lose. Scroll down to essentially third page, Edmonton and Montreal Lose, keep scrolling down to 4th page, oh look the top team in the league won again but who cares.

Fuck the Leafs, keep their rumours out of our board, we can’t avoid them as it is.

good, I'd rather we not be on the eastern media top story page because it probably means some bullshit rumour or piling on over something.

They def need help sooner than later

yea the futures talk is kind of confusing to me, they are clearly all-in, its not like a 20+ draft pick in a so-so draft is going to be the thing that makes the difference. That player won't likely be ready until Matthews is gone.

I still think there's a good chance they pony up, they may just look for someone they can retain this time

You probably don't even know what type of forechecking/D-zone systems the Canucks and Leafs deploy.  What is the Canucks' defensive formation under Tocchet?  Box+1?  Strong side overload  What is their forecheck formation?  Is it a 1-2-2, a 2-1-2, or a 1-3-1?

Being able to identify team systems is the first step to understanding what works and what doesn't.   The Canucks are a prime example of how you can take the exact same core and achieve much more using different defensive tactics.  Why were we so bad last year and the year before?  Apart from Horvat, the core was the exact same.  And before you engage in generic sports platitudes, first identify the defensive systems coach Tocchet and Keefe are employing, and whether those tactics are being executed properly.

Leafs are a shinny hockey team. Wouldn't matter what systems are applied, that core will only abide by it when they feel like it. They've shown it time and time again. They can score, yip, give them room and they can score. When they get to playoffs and ice tightens, up that core flounders. It's evident time and time again in the postseason. The other important parts of the game that involve sacrifice and are not fun to play eludes that core group.
