Popular Post Jess
Obviously, the data is stored via Google Drive, but wanted to bring this thread over: I find that I'm often looking for a lot of information on Canuck records that takes a bit of work to find, so I thought I'd make a spreadsheet to show a bunch of Canuck records and how they've changed over the history of the Canucks. Personally, I'll be using this for quick access to information for my hockey blog, but I figured some others on here might want to use it or just view it for curiosity's sake. There's far to much information to place in this post, so I've just made the Google Sheet accessible by link if you're interested: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1czbmdTFdMVNMVrkHaOH0jzWt5jVXMCo4JAXDSQRu36c/edit?usp=sharing Some interesting bits I found: - The oldest single-season player record is a tie between goals (overall and by a RW, Pavel Bure) at 60 goals set in 1992-93 (and tied in 1993-94 by Bure again) and points by a RW, Pavel Bure, with 110 points in 1992-93. - The oldest career stats player record of the ones I track is shorthanded goals by a defenseman, where Lumme last set the record of 6 shorthanded goals as a Canuck in 1993-94, after scoring three shorties in one season. - In Vancouver's inaugural season, Dale Tallon set marks for a rookie defenseman that have still not been beaten today, making them the oldest Canuck records in any category. (9/5/20 EDIT: Quinn Hughes has beaten his assist record, but the games, goals, and points ones still stand) - Despite the 80s being hyper-offensive, the Canucks were better in the early 90s, so their highest goals-per-game came in 1992-93 - The Canucks apparently had a crazy good powerplay in 1982-83 Currently, I typically update this about once per year, but if I'm particularly excited about a new record, I might do it during the year. Updates for the end of the 2023-24 season: Quote New Records for the 2023-24 Season: Single-Season Records: All Skaters: Highest +/- in a season - Quinn Hughes (+38) Defensemen: Most assists - Quinn Hughes (75) Most points - Quinn Hughes (92) Highest +/- - Quinn Hughes (+38) Centres: Most powerplay points - J.T. Miller (40) Most game-winning goals - Elias Pettersson (10) Right Wings: OT Goals - Brock Boeser (1 - Tied record) Career Records: Centres: OT Goals - J.T. Miller (9 - Tied record) Right Wings: OT Goals - Brock Boeser (3 - Tied Record) Team Records: Most Recent 5-goal differential - Mar 9, 2024 - 5-0 win over Winnipeg Jets - Four players with 2 points Most Recent 7-goal differential - Oct 11, 2023 - 8-1 win over Edmonton Oilers - Three players with 4 points Most Recent 9-goal differential - Nov 2, 2023 - 10-1 win over San Jose Sharks - Quinn Hughes had 5 points Other notes: - Hughes is tied with Dennis Kearns for 2nd in assists as a Canuck at 290. He has just over half as many games as Kearns. He will almost certainly pass Edler for 1st in 2024-25 and needs 77 points to pass Edler in points, which is doable for him. - Hughes is 2nd in PP Points among defensemen at 149 and is 28 behind Edler. He had 38 PPP in 2023-24, which was one shy of the record set by Reinhart in 1988-89. - By scoring two SHG this year, Myers launched himself up to 3rd all time among Canuck defensemen with 4 SHG. Ohlund (5) and Lumme (6) are ahead of him. Myers' 2 SHG were one behind the single-season record for a defenseman, when Lumme had three in 1993-94. - Miller and Pettersson both broke the single-season record for the most game-winning goals by a centre in a season, but Pettersson had one more than Miller, so he is the record-holder. - Miller tied Morrison for 2nd all-time in overtime goals at 9. Daniel Sedin holds the record at 16. - Elias Pettersson currently sits at a career +56, good for 8th all-time as a Canuck and is the current highest active Canuck. - The Canucks won by exactly five goals twice in 2023-24, both in 5-0 victories. - The Canucks had their first 7-goal victory in almost 17 years with their 8-1 thumping of the Oilers in the season-opener. - The Canucks had their first ever 9-goal victory in franchise history with their 10-1 win over the San Jose Sharks in November. It was the 2nd time in franchise history the team scored 10+ goals in a game. 3 1

Canadian_Kanga
I'm not sure if this is the right thread, or if it's been posted 4000 times elsewhere (/disclaimer) But I saw this morning that 4 Canucks players have at least 25 points each in the first 23 games, and that's the first time in NHL history that's 4 players (same team) has done that. Boeser Miller Elias Hughes. er, thank you *exit stage left.
Jess
Made a post in the recent PGT that's related to records: We're tied for 3rd in point percentage. On pace for 113 points, which would be the 2nd best regular season total in franchise history. Astounding to think this could come off an 83-point season. A 30-point jump in points would be among the largest this team has ever seen. We had an 18-point jump from Torts to Willie D in 2014-15 and that felt huge. We had a 25 point increase from 58 points to 83 points from 1998-99 to 1999-00. I'm fairly certain that the highest single-season increase is from 1990-91 to 1991-92 from 65 to 96 points--a 31-point increase. These kinds of rebound seasons only happen about once every 20-30 years for most teams. Enjoy it, folks.

Wilbur
There will be some all-time seasons coming up this year. Safe to say points by a defenseman in a season will see a new record, as well as Hronek entering it as well. Also, right now Quinn Hughes is 3 points a way from being in a tie for the 10th best season all-time...at 42 games. Elias Pettersson is already on the GWG column. Hughes and Hronek, at the moment, are in a 4 way tie for the 9th best+/- season of all time at +32.
Wilbur
Maybe it was looking at the top +/- seasons but this year does have a 92/93 and a 09/10 vibe. You have Quinn Hughes pulling the Pavel Bure or Henrik Sedin career year, plus numerous other players seemingly leveling up. Numerous players on the team with high +/-'s (indicating an extremely good team goal differential and dominant 5 on 5 play)

Wilbur
Hronek currently has the top single season +/- in Canuck history...if he can maintain it. Quinn Hughes breathing down his neck too. Plus Minus "+/-" Filip Hronek (23-24) 37 Christian Ehrhoff (09-10) 36 Quinn Hughes (23-24) 36 Daniel Sedin (09-10) 36 Pavel Bure (92-93) 35 Marek Malik (03-04) 35 Henrik Sedin (09-10) 35 Alexandre Burrows (09-10) 34 Dana Murzyn (92-93) 34 Dixon Ward (92-93)
OldFaithfulcap
Not sure if this goes in here but the Canucks have now had 3x30 goals scorers for 3 or more consecutive seasons. Only 18 teams in NHL History have done it 3 or more times and the last time was the red wings in 1991-92 to 1993-94. Of those 17 teams, 3 of the 5 in the 70s won the cup, only 2 of the 11 in the 1980s (but that includes the oilers and islanders and it was a much higher scoring period) and the wings didn't go far in the postseason. The Canucks have come close before. The last times the canucks had 2 x 30 scorers was from 1981-82 to 82-83 and from 1991-92 to 92-93, some pretty good years for us. Florida still has the chance to also record 3x30 if tkachuk can get 8 goals.
MattJVD
Man, it's so wild that Hughes is going to break the franchise records for assists and points by a defenceman 3 seasons in a row! I can't belive we finally have a defenceman that good. Edit, I assume he gets at least 2 more assists in his last 9 games to break the record he set last season.
