He says the Sedins were among the toughest. “I think the twins did a lot of stuff that people don't know about. As (Henrik) got a bit older, his back wasn’t great, he literally couldn't walk sometimes. And he's the best player on the ice. ... How those guys conducted themselves was so awesome and professional. They didn't want any attention at all.”

 

. Tanev tells a great story about making his debut with Vancouver. “My first game was in Colorado and I think I was still a little, little skinny kid,” he said, laughing. “I took my shirt off and Keith Ballard was like, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to get killed.’ I think I was about 168, 170 pounds my first year.” (He’s now just under 200.)

 

Ballard did teach one life lesson that stayed with Tanev, however. “I don't think I paid for a dinner in my first three years in the league. I’d always go out and (he’d) be like, 'No, kid, I got it tonight. When you're 30, you make sure you pay for the kids.’

 

That's the stuff that I would always remember from those guys.”

 

How about his rookie dinner? Was that a big bill? “My rookie dinner sucked,” he answered. “It was in Minnesota, it was a Tuesday, so we went curling and then to dinner and then out. I’ve been to a lot of better ones than that.”

So, now the Leafs care about Tanev because they might trade for him?

Tanman was a warrior for us during his tenure here. It would be nice if he could make his way back to the West Coast but durability is always a question mark.

No kidding, I remember their fans wanting nothing to do with Tanev years ago when the Canucks were brutal and the Leafs were trending up.

I guess Tanev's accepted nickname among former and current teammates is Tanman - right?

 

Does anyone know the origin of it,  is it a riff on Rainman?

Tanev was a great member of the Canucks and should have been re-signed here for another four years back when his extension was due.

 

A much better choice than the D-men who replaced him.

 

Now its too late to bring him back... too old for the core we're building now.

 

He's a good guy... and a warrior and I personally wish him well.

Tanev is > then Myers.    It's truly too bad, both him and Edler had to carry the load.   Someone would have had to.   Not an era i'm going to look back very fondly on though either.   As soon as one went down, our season was done for.   For sure i'd welcome him back.   Now that we actually have a decent/good  team again.   Playoffs require depth.   And he's an upgrade on Myers right now.

I think Elliotte Friedman included Tanev because he wanted in on your "days of Canuckmas" thread.  Too bad he shot his load too soon and missed it by a day.

he's got more than 1 left in him. I bet he gets another 4 year deal, and I'd be happy to give it to him.

tanny is his more frequent nickname, but juice called him tanman sometimes. it just rhymes, that's the whole thing.
