Blue Jays / MLB Talk

Jays were very lucky to get the win yesterday. A couple of baserunning errors by Bo And Vladdy could have cost them the game....

But it doesn't even get to extras if Red Sox Center Fielder, Ceddanne Rafaela doesn't badly misplay a Daulton Varsho line drive into an RBI triple....

They were also lucky on the out of town scoreboard, as the Royals beat the Astros, 10-8, the Guardians beat the Rangers 2-1 and the Dodgers beat the Mariners, 6-2 in 11 innings....

2023 Playoffs around the corner. Blue Jays are about 50/50 to make the playoffs or not. Thing is, they’re going to get destroyed if they make it since you know… you play against good teams and we all know what the Blue Jays do against good teams.

They won't get destroyed.  Won't score a run against playoff pitching, but 2 zip isn't getting destroyed 😝

Some good news from down on the farm....

The Vancouver Canadians claimed the Northwest League title on Saturday night.

The Canadians, who are the high-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, earned a decisive 10-2 win over the visiting Everett AquaSox in Game 4 of their best-of-five series at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver was already up 8-2 — thanks to a five-run fourth inning — when second baseman Nick Goodwin hit a two-run homer in the seventh that put the game out of reach.

Canadians left fielder Gabriel Martinez, who is ranked 27th among all Blue Jays prospects, had three hits and two RBIs. Right fielder Garrett Spain contributed with three hits, two runs and two RBIs while third baseman Cade Doughty, Toronto's 16th-ranked prospect, added two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Starting pitcher Ryan Jennings set the tone on the mound giving up zero hits and one walk over three scoreless innings while also earning five strikeouts. Anders Tolhurst took over and picked up the win as he threw four innings giving up two runs on four hits, zero walks and three strikeouts.

It's way down on the farm....but still...

Oh BTW... this worked with Pius Suter, so...

Shohei Ohtani.... YOU... are a Toronto Blue Jay...!

What are the logistics for pitchers batting in the American League?  Can he DH and pitch?

He's on the Angels, not the Dodgers.  He's been in the AL the entire time.  And the DH rules are universal now anyways, so there's no difference between the NL and AL anyways.

The league did make an Ohtani Rule a few years back: any pitcher who chooses to DH can continue to DH even after a new pitcher comes on.

I knew there was something back in the day that made it different than NL rules!! Thanks for that!

For the first couple years Shohei couldn't bat on the days he pitched, and vice versa.  Now he can do what he wants, when he wants it.  And now there's zero difference between the league's also - everyone DH's, and only one pitcher (Ohtani) hits.

What a roller-coaster of a season it has been so far. One day you feel completely gutted by this team, the next feel like a contender.

Fortunately for the Blue Jays no one in the AL west wants to do anything clutch this September leaving post season for the jays still possible.

With the Jays having 6 left against NYY and 6 against TB you gotta hope for 4-2 against NYY, and 3-3 against TB. With SEA and TEX playing 7 games against each other in the last two weeks, it should be enough.

Shohei Ohtani had a procedure on his elbow, he will hit in ‘24 and return to pitch in ‘25 Season

Now the real question is, will anyone other than the Dodgers have a chance at him? They will pay him as if he weren't injured. I'm sure the Yankees would too.

The Jays win big over the Yanks despite Vlad and his growing slump.  C'mon kid!  You're a multi millionaire.  Be happy, don't worry...🤨

Right on!  Vlad has got to pick it up. I think the first step would be is to stop thinking you're gonna blow it every time you get up to bat.
