DeNiro Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Woof that’s what it took to get them to stay I guess. Figured that Winnipeg would lean into the skid and rebuild like they should. Guess not. Quote
Trebreh Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Oof contract but happy for the jets that they kept their core players. Quote
DeNiro Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 I don’t know why but I find it baffling that Miller and Scheifele were taken in the same draft. I always think of Scheifele as younger but I guess he’s been around a long time now. Quote
MeanSeanBean Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Oh man... rebuild? Never heard of her! Quote
Diamonds Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 At this point Scheifele and Miller are pretty comparable so it makes sense for them to have similar contracts. They are identical ages (literally one day different). However, we get Miller for one less year so we win. Quote
Ghostsof1915 Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Well they've got 6 years plus to find a replacement. Quote
Wing Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Wow didn't see this coming for either. Didn't Hellebuyuk say he wants to win a cup. I guess getting paid now is the higher priority but who can blame him. Quote

Goaltenders probably don't age that poorly, and legends like Brodeur/ MA Fleury/ Lundqvist were still at least #2's at the tail end of their career in their late mid-30's. Hellebuyck's probably in that tier so he probably doesn't fall off too terribly, and he could always get "injured" and LTIRetire. 1 Quote

DownUndaCanuck Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 The new Flames. They're good but there's no long term plan there. Guess they'll fall into the wildcard spot fight for the next 5 years then dip Quote
Amebushi Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 And people think we have no plan . Canadian teams really don’t want to lean into a rebuild do they? 1 Quote
BlockerHigh Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Based on Helly’s contract it should mean Demko’s will be reasonable, as the prior is considered a “consistently elite” goalie, whereas Demko as see as a potentially elite but hasn’t put the string of years together that he needs to be paid that much. I’m guessing Demko gets $7x8 when he’s up. Quote
gwarrior Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 I thought 1, if not both would be moving on for sure. Quote

Hope this quiets some of the boohoo JT Miller contract whiners. Love having JT on this team. Edited October 9, 2023 by Rekker 2 4 Quote
