Sitting Kuzmenko and playing Lafferty as a top 6 winger?

Recommended Posts

I don’t think Kuzmenko has played too poorly to be a healthy scratch!

Didn’t like the line combinations at all against St Louis, save for the 3rd line… but could have even put Suter at centre again on that line!
Horrible!

The final score says it all!

And the power play sucks now!

Has me questioning Tocchet now?

What is he trying to do with the offence?!

Tocchet thinks we’re already in playoffs so he tests a few things to see the limits and possibilities.

Ok, kuz got scratched. But it's not the end of the world. It's called "pick yourself up, dust yourself off get ready for the next one!!!!! And don't feel sorry for yourself!!!!"

If you want to go deep in the playoffs, you need players forechecking and backchecking. Right now, Kuzmenko is playing a fairly soft game and in the playoffs, that would be a problem for us.

The time to fix that in his game is now! Sometimes sitting and watching brings perspective. We don't know what is being done during the game to coach him on positional play, breaking down what's expected of him, game in and game out.

As a team, we weren't competing like we should tonight and that happens to all teams during the season. Now, we need go into our next game and show that we deserve to be at the top of the division and one of the top teams in the league. I'm betting that Kuzmenko will be back for next game, but they might sit him for the one after for a little more off-ice coaching.

It's been a recurring narrative throughout the first half of the season, whether we win games or not.

I'm sure it must be frustrating for others here to see someone like Linus Karlsson or Nils Åman play 8-9 minutes a game and put zeroes on the board.  Bless those two Swedes, but they should not be playing ahead of Kuzmenko.

Think a trade may just be in the works.

If not Kuz better rethink his back check and start playing D better or he will sit time and time again.

Kuz has skill we all see it but don't blame the coach if a player just can't get his game together.

I believe a trade is coming.  Allvin is in Sweden.  As soon as he is back we will hear something…

Not every player has to be a defensive player.
Sometimes you need that pure goal scorer.
Im a big Toc fan, but it does seem like he is sucking offence out of a few players.

Sometime, like tonight, you just need someone to score a goal.

if your forte is scoring and your not scoring, you need to help the team in other ways. kuz hasn't done that.

he isn't helping petey and at least lafferty is good defensively and along the boards.

to be successful in the playoffs, they need all players going on all cylinders.

everyone has to earn their ice time. time for a trade for a kesler type.

At some point Tocchet has to start acting like a professional instead of singling out one guy for no reason.  Otherwise, he needs to be replaced with a coach willing to conduct himself appropriately.

Pretty sure you're going to have a long wait for that, but eventually you will get your wish.   We simply don't have all the data.    Do think this is becoming a distraction.   And a lightning rod with the media, that gains traction after every low scoring game, especially if the PP isn't clicking, or EP's off the scoreboard.

Brian Burke has a great formula for roster construction in his book and even Burkie has room for a skilled top line winger.  We would all love 18 top end two way skaters but on your top line you need high end skill.  Toughest skill in Hockey is goal scoring.

We could use a Maholtra as well.   Losing Horvat has affected our PP, and our center depth.   For sure worth the trade, we had nothing on the right side.    Agree Smithers, we need everyone toeing the line on both sides of the puck.    Kuzmenko just needs to do the things the coaches are asking for, and do his part.   He's not been paid to score 40 goals either ... more like 25/25, if he could do that, and do some of the things he's been asked to do better, we will be fine.   If not, he won't make it past this seasons TDL.

When he gets scratched, you do have to wonder sometimes if there is something in the works behind the scenes going on.   It's becoming a distraction.

It’s January not anywhere near playoff time and the preseason is over! Time is now to have your NHL top 6 roster gelling and getting the best  position in the Western Conference…and then play match up in your 7 game series. AGAIN, has Kuzmenko really been THAT bad?! Every NHL player goes thru a slump in scoring, can he be expected to break out of his slump in the press box watching? Those line combinations were HARD to watch, and again the final score says it all!

Watch the games and stop listening to the paid media.

EVERYTHING you hear during a game, on TV and the radio is a CANUCK/NHL production. Everyone is paid by one of those entities, EVERYONE. Either as full time or contractors.

They get paid to lead the lemmings around by the nose. WATCH KUZMENKO!!!! IGNORE BOESER!!!!!!

The paid media keep talking about how Tocchet is fair and treats even the high priced players the same, he benched Miller!!!!, Still being paraded around, for three stinking shifts in one game 3 months ago. Three shifts.

Kuzmenko gets benched and sat for a minute long shift. Miller, Hughes, Pettersson, Hronek, HUGHES, Garland, Suter ...... never a whisper except to praise them for the long shifts.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" except for Tochhet it is "bench Kuzmenko at all costs and then blame" playoff teams have to play win these games, Captain Obvious strikes again.

There is not doubt that Tocchet has had some effect on the team but how much is he being credited for the improvement of the defence and upgrade at forward?

Tocchet spent a few years as a commentator on TV, he knows how to talk to the media and fans. It helps when he can give the finger to a topic he doesn't want to talk about.

WATCH BOESER, the player that asked for a trade at least twice! He just floats around, hardy ever checks, barely ever on the boards, accidental body contact in front of the net.

Tocchet is in charge of the powerplay along with part-time sedins and part-time gonchar.

Kuzmenko has been bumped from his successful position on the ice last year on the powerplay and yet he's still our top pp goal scorer since december. They need a powerplay coach and they need kuz out there for it.

Uh, I watched the last game from the St Louis broadcast. And the media has NOTHING to do with my view! Enjoy Lafferty on Petey’s line, HaHa!

Last night this team needed a Kuz goal

Petey seemed lost out there with his new wingers

Yeah don't brush off Pettersson that easily, he's been lined up with Mikheyev for almost 18 months now... hardly a new winger for him. Pettersson has been brutal since the start of november but nobody wants to admit it. He's playing like a middle 6 center right now.
