Yes, today's injury update from Toc was a bit disappointing. Soucy and Mikheyev continue to get "closer" (of they are) and Briser and Blueger seem to be worse than expected. If I understood, neither Briser not Blueger is going on the road trip (at least to start).

The Canucks have a lot of depth at the forward position so, although Mik and Blueger are very good, the forwards are good even with them out. The D is a lot more iffy. Juulsen and Hirose struggled against Edmonton and were not particularly good in pre-season. Wolanin, Irwin, and McWard were all contenders to make the roster but none of them seized the opportunity and Rathbone and Johannsson are a step below that.

Hope that Soucy is ready soon. Not sure whether he would replace Hirose or Juulsen. My guess is that he would take Hirose's spot as Toc likes D's on their natural side if possible.

Fortunately, Hughes and Hronek look great and Cole and Myers have exceeded expectations (mine, anyway) and have looked good.

Hoped at list Blueger back.

Now that we have Lafferty, there isn't any rush to get Blueger back   Lafferty may evan be an upgrade.  But as good as he may be one day, you can't say the same for Hirose over Soucy.  Soucy is the guy we need to ge back ASAP, IMHO.

Well I'm thinking the haters are finally getting a glimpse of a team that isn't injured at D badly like the start of last season and that's only part of it!

However our local sports writimg idiots who write laughable content at best are still talking about as if we just sucked at the start and failed to remember our D corps were decimated, Demko wasn't himself, Mik went down, how the F does any team in the NHL win games in that state?

Our Vancouver media is nothing but a laughable joke and funnier is the idiots who are stupid enough to believe them.

String a few wins together and they'll be doing nothing but praise, funny thing, most of them said we'd have a hard time at the start and fall back to last year's scenario.

How stupid can they possibly be??

Can it be any worse? Probably! I didn't think so before but they proved otherwise (again)

When they went out and got Lafferty last minute you know that our management knew Blueger would be out long term, it wasn't just a day to day bruise. Funny how they tell the media one thing but know something completely different and they acted on it. It's probably to throw other teams off more than the fans though, but you know that PA knew Blueger would be out for a while so he had to act fast.

Canucks didn't go out get Lafferty as in looked for a player like him and called Toronto to ask for him.

Actually it was the opposite of that.

TML couldn't keep Lafferty because cap reasons. They had to move him even though they didn't want to.

So the Leafs called the Oilers first. They wanted Vincent Desharnais in return from the Oilers. He's a Dman and Oilers really like him so declined.

After that the Leafs called the Canucks offered Lafferty for cheap. Canucks obviously jumped on it and got him for a 5th.

I think the Leafs wanted to do right by Lafferty. Send him to a team he'd be happy at. They called the Oilers and Canucks and offered him.

Road schedule looks good. No back to backs.  Couple of 2 day breaks.  Maybe they will get all three (Soucy, Bleuger and Illya) back by the end of the trip.  Hopefully next home game will be able to ice the full lineup as drawn up by management.

i thought mikheyev wanted to play in the first game how long can it be for him to play?

Once he is off the non contact practices then he should be close.   Would watch for that on the daily practice lineup updates.

Update:

Patrick Johnston of The Vancouver Province is reporting that Vancouver Canucks center Teddy Blueger injury status has been changed to week to week. Blueger was originally thought to have a bruised knee, but apparently will not travel with the team on their upcoming road trip. Blueger originally suffered the injury when he blocked a shot back on October 6th in a preseason game against the Calgary Flames. He joined the Canucks two days later for practice but lasted just 15 minutes before the injury caused him to leave.

The injury will force Blueger to further delay his regular season debut with the Canucks after a solid preseason had fans feeling optimistic about his upcoming season with the team. Blueger signed a one-year $1.9MM contract with the Canucks on July 1st after a disappointing season last year split between the Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins. Blueger posted just four goals and 12 assists last year in 63 games while being deployed largely as a fourth-line center and penalty-kill specialist.

In other Canucks injury notes:

  • The Canucks injury news isn’t all bad. The Vancouver Province posted that injured defenseman Carson Soucy skated with the Canucks yesterday in a non-contact jersey and will travel with the team on their upcoming road trip. Soucy also took part in extra skating drills before practice as he tries to get into game shape. Soucy was originally injured a week ago in a preseason game against the Flames and was thought to be out week to week but could be back sooner than later.
  • The Vancouver Province reported that Canucks forward Ilya Mikheyev has gone from practicing with the team in a regular jersey to a non-contact jersey. The 29-year-old had been in a regular jersey for almost a week but was downgraded yesterday for an undisclosed reason. The Canucks thought earlier in the week that Mikheyev might be ready for the Canucks October 17th game against the Philadelphia Flyers but given the setback that return now seems unlikely. Like Soucy, Mikheyev took extra skating before the team’s practice yesterday as he tries to get into game shape.

They aren't sending anyone down right now as they have Studnika on the emergency recall. That allows them to go over the 23-man roster by one. We have Mikheyev and Hirose as extra healthy players, and Blueger and Brisebois recovering still.

I should say "healthy" for Mikheyev.
