Yup. Old drunk Alf was critical of CG. But he’s really playing well under Tocchet’s guidance. Driving the third line is hugely important. CG is playing above his cap allocation now.

Somehow Tocc got Garly to accept the role. Bruce made him feel slighted in the same job.

Big contractitis. He has to be the little hate machine out there to really work. Last year he lost the fire in his game.
Happens to a lot of players year after signing big contract.

Garland continues his ascent up the all-time Canuck scoring list.  Now into 78th.

78   Conor Garland RW 204 44 78 122

Garland with 17 points in his last 21 games, he's always been a bit streaky but this is a good stretch for his line of course. Joshua is scoring at just about the same pace and Blueger surprisingly as well, has a season scoring pace of about 55 pts.

Garland's putting up some 2nd line numbers right now which is good to see, let's hope he can sustain this and then suddenly we've finally got a 2nd line winger out of him.

On July 23rd, 2021, one of the biggest head-scratching trades ever took place between the Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes. The Canucks sent over a package of Loui Eriksson, Jay Beagle, and Antoine Rousell, all regarded as overpaid and underachieving forwards playing in their bottom six. To dump the salary, the Canucks had to attach three draft picks, including their ninth overall pick that season, which turned into Team Canada overtime hero at the 2022 world juniors, Dylan Guenther. In return, the Canucks received aging defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and young forward Conor Garland.
That trade is widely considered to be one of the worst in Canucks franchise history. Oliver Ekman-Larsson has since been bought out and will haunt the Canucks’ salary cap until the 2028-2029 season. It wasn’t until this season that we started to see somewhat of a bright spot that has come from the trade — the resurgence of Conor Garland. https://canucksarmy.com/news/how-rick-tocchets-hiring-saved-conor-garland-canucks-career

61 games and 28 points.

Steadily declining since he came here.  52 points in his first season, 46 points in his second season, and significantly less points in his third season here.

Has redefined his role, and his chemistry with Joshua is good, but you need more from him. Without Joshua, Garland has been really quiet and not nearly as on his game.

He's a great energy guy, but yeah, his higher-end scoring is gone. When he arrived, he was a 2nd line guy with even top line potential if he improved a little. Now he's a 3rd line guy who you can maybe try on the 2nd line for stints, but doesn't appear consistent enough for reliable 2nd line minutes.

He's overpaid for what he brings, but I think he can still be valuable in a 3rd line role.

Great March for Garly with 9 points (4G, 5A) and +8 in 11 games. If he keeps this up, he has a chance to match last year's 46 points.

Garland sure got a lot of flack around here the last couple years but this year everyone is raving he’s doing great. The irony? His point totals the last 2 years have been better than this year.
1st year as a Canuck: 52 pts in 77 games

2nd year as a Canuck: 46 pts in 81 games

This year: 40 points in 76 games.

So compared to other years it’s a down year?
But in reality it’s just he’s been a difference maker when it mattered scoring timely goals.

His ice time is also 2 minutes less than it was his first year:

2022: 16:24

2023: 15:06

2024: 14:25

I think he's looked more dangerous this year, but that's also just my opinion lol.

Garland has really caught fire lately. I can't get exact numbers now, but I'd wager he's probably at about .8 points per game in his last 20 games or so.

How is Concrete Garden Gnome 62 when he’s got less points than Higgins who is at 64?
