Dhaliwal sharing that Canucks want to sign Jacob Truscott but Truscott is eligible to walk into free agency August 15, 2024.

- Dhaliwal notes his agent/advisor Darren Ferris is known to take clients  to free agency.

This might be a situation where it is great to have someone like Huggie who is a former Captain at UofM (Go Green) and a dman who can talk to him about the culture in VAN.

We haven’t had a college free agent walk on us yet despite the constant frenzied paranoia on here that they would. 😂

These players know that unless they think they can step right into the NHL they’re better to stick with the team that drafted them. They’ll get lost in the pile of more favoured prospects if they go to another team.

Burning a year off their ELC is the only advantage we can offer at this point, but it would be significant for an older prospect like Truscott.

Canucks have to get Truscott signed.  He has Tanev like skills and character/leadership qualities.

Here is a decent article about Truscott...

That will need to wait until spring unless he is willing to lose his college eligibility though.

Yes, for sure.  He's in his 4th year, so they need to work on him like they did with McDonough.

Convince him that the Canucks are the best place for him to continue his development.  He could

end up being a great pick; especially as a 5th rounder.

Any rumours on Truscott? Isn't this the year we have to sign him or he goes UFA? Not sure its a big loss if so, but he could be a nice depth piece for us. Seems like a Tanev esque player

Must sign by August 15 2024 same as Matthew Thiessen

I dont think we sign him, theres like 5 -7 guys above him in the pecking order. Hurts too that he was an old regime pick

US scouts.  Big surprise right?  (US/Euro amateur scouts have been carrying the franchise since....forever)

Its not that. Truscott just hasn't done enough to warrant the management team to have a gun to their head on signing him. I assume theyd rather take a chance on the late picks, College FA's signings that their gonna make down the line rather than be forced to sign a very mid prospect now.

Still, he was a guy originally drafted as a result of our US amateur scouting staff.

He's certainly not flashy, but he's actually had a very solid college career. He made a US WJC team despite being a more defensive defenseman and is currently the captain at UMich. He also was entrusted with being the defensive conscience for freshman Luke Hughes.

I'd like to see him signed personally. Even if he ultimately just becomes an AHL leadership player it's still nice to have a few of those that are homegrown.

Rick Dhaliwal on sportnets 650 Halford and Brough show stated he was told today that Jacob Truscott will become a UFA August 15 and will not sign his ELC in Vancouver.

Abbotsford Dcore is crowded now and will be next season on the left side with Wolanin, Hirose, and DPetey all under contract. Doesnt even include RFA Nick Cicek if re-signed (who has had a strong season), Kirill Kudryavtsev (has turned 20 and could turn pro) and the questionable health of Guillaume Brisebois.

Makes sense he wants an opportunity elsewhere. Its too bad considering this club stuck through his development. I wonder if he gets used in a trade like San Jose did with Henry Thrun.

Unfortunate as you want to get all your guys signed. Maybe come trade deadline one of those guys gets tossed in as a little sweetener on a deal creating a little more room on the LD for Truscott and he changes his mind. Or maybe it’s him that’s moved.
