Bag skating and hard practices

lol.. that's a ridicious statement to make without much thought.

What's wrong with making the team train hard as long as they get enough rest before the game?

The most important thing is, this team has fallen flat in too many games throughout the last few years. And now it is the coach's fault for making them train hard? What about all the other games this team had underperformed? You forgot about those games?

It is NOT a fluke that EVERY skater without exception was short on energy in this game. Every player except the guy who was rested and not bag skated (Demko) was bad tonight.

Usually there is at least 1 or 2 players , even in the worst games that stand out. But in this game , the lack of energy was uniform. Right from Petey and Miller to Studnika and PDG. Everyone looked equally gassed. That should be taken as useful information to the coaching and trainers. Instead of flipped into some effort cliches and bullshit like you just served up.

The team managed to largely contain the best PP ever and squeak out a win, and get rewarded with a bag skate.

I am not surprised they mailed it in tonight.

Tocchet needs to be better. He needs to bag skate himself. Oh wait, that's a useless waste of time and energy.

Styles of leadership have changed over the years. Why should coaching stay the same?

Nowadays a heirarchy doesn't make sense. Collaboration is the way to do things. I don't see a point in bag skates at all. They are old school and Green out of all people used them when he was around.

Tocchet and Green are cut from the same fabric. I don't know if Tocchet is the right coach. I must admit though, we played well for the first two games.

When literally every skater underperforms, this indicates that the coaching staff and trainers did something wrong.

6 hours of flying, time change, late night and early start. And the flu lingering. And 12 hours before this, you bag skate the team ? Tocchet is ripping the team, but its all on him and the trainers.  There's no way that literally every skater was short on gas for no reason.

Now flame away with your effort cliches. And bag skate them even harder next time. That'll teach 'em.

There is a balance needed for teams on the west coast. Vancouver has one of the busiest travel schedules in the NHL.

These guys are pro athletes that make millions. If one hard practice throws them off this team needs to be torn down.

This is the kind of reductio ad boomer-um that is useless to the discourse.

They are up against other pro athlete millionaires. Being coached by a hard ass also. Margins are razor thin. And the difference between a win and loss like this is the simple human physics of it. They had no flight, time change or anything. And the flu + bag skate is just enough to sap their human energy by a small margin. And this is the result. The players didn't choose to have marginally less energy

You're right, Tocc should have talked to them about their feelings instead.

And not a boomer btw.

You keep saying they had less energy as though it’s quantifiable and an objective fact… We had a shit game as a team. We’ll have others. Simple as that. I’m looking forward to a solid bounce back next game.

I'm not opposed to a bag skate, but after back to back wins while the team is recovering from the flu is not the right time.  You can only get away with that so many times before the team starts tuning you out like Sutter in Calgary.

It wasn't a bag skate. Drance wrote a good article on it.

Tocchet appears to be a tier above Sutter, Hartley or Torterella asshole levels. I sure hope he keeps it that way. Micheal Grabner said he was easier going than Alain Vignault.

He had the right idea by not wanting to be complacent with the 2 wins. But the bag skate with this schedule probably wasn't the best way to execute it

Think the issue at hand is the team didn't get enough rest.

As for other underperformance, this is the first underperformed game of the season. Saturday wasn't pretty but the compete was still there. Throne, the whole team is out of gas and flat except for the goalie.

Drance himself on radio called it essentially a bag skate.

I’ll take the written word over your take on what point Drance was “essentially” making on the radio.

Regardless of if there was a heavy skating session and a long flight, or whatever other mix of factors, it’s not like these things don’t occur regularly throughout the season while going unnoticed when the outcome isn’t dog shit on the ice.

It was a bad game all around except for Demko and few others. We underestimated our opponents and they rubbed our noses in it. They’ll take TB more seriously and this loss should add extra fuel.

Team played 3 games in 7 days, 11 days if you include the 4 days off after the end of preseason, and WE ARE LITERALLY 3 GAMES INTO THE SEASON. I am not giving you the "they're tired" excuse. It's complete BS. That loss is on these players, not named Demko. How they respond is going to be key.
