Happy for Hutton but I think he could have been better had he taken his craft more seriously.

Crazy to think we let him go after being a basement team, he jumped around a few decent teams and then ends up on the best team in the league and plays consistently on their bottom pairing and PK and does well for a few years. Got very lucky being taken up by Vegas and of course their decent team play, structure and coaching turns him into a fairly good bottom pairing guy.

SO Ben has a CUP ring and we are still waiting. 🤣 Good for Ben he was a fun player. His goal scored from the player bench door was classic!

His qualifying offer was 2.4 million. Wasn't gonna happen after his -23 season.

He never fulfilled his promise after his rookie season and Benning showed us how to mismanage a contract.  You can't pay young players until they actually produce something.  You can't pay based on what you hope they are going to become.  It works out sometimes with players like Jack Hughes but Hutton is no Hughes.  For the vast majority, you can't put the cart before the horse.  When it was clear that he was never going to be a top 4 player and needed to be paired with a steady veteran, his QO couldn't be paid.  It's really hard to walk back a salary once you pay too much.

The same happened with Boeser.  Lucky for us his contract wasn't tradeable last year because he'd be gone.

Benning overpaid Virtanen and Sutter as well to name a few.  I'm loving the contracts that Allvin is signing.  Much more reasonable.

He's not exactly a crazy game-changer; therefore, it's not crazy to think we let him go. I don't think I'd ever think it crazy to let a bottom pairing dman go unless if we thought he was going to become a top 4, which he hasn't.  The guy's 30 years old now and had to bounce around the league 1st to get to where he's at.
