It's amazing that we have now probably 3-4 dmen in their D+1 outperforming Joulevi in his D+1 back when he was our best D prospect.

Juolevi also had multiple knee and back surgeries right after being drafted.

didn't learn from the Virtanen shoulder surgery...I don't know what the word is but man Benning was terrible when it came to top selections it seems...selecting guys who had injuries.

Hope this kid progresses well, still young stats in juniors can look great but few guys can translate that from Junior level to Pro level hockey...we see it all the time with our own top 10 selections!

Go Sawyer go though!

This! Fans like to blame Juolevi for not developing, but you can't blame someone who suffered massive injuries AFTER he was drafted. Same goes for Benning on this, I don't expect clairvoyance from the team management.

You can blame Benning all you want for Virtanen, that was on him!

Juolevi just sucked.  He had a good WJHC, that's it.  He played on two dominant junior teams and didn't even get close to a ppg.  This is a top 5 pick we're talking about lol and he wasn't some 6'6 all rounded defenceman either.  Guy could never play

Didnt know all 5th overalls were a guarantee. Buddy its a draft based on potential, doesnt mean anyone is coming out of that draft for sure NH player.

Regardless if he sucked or not, he ranked higher than every other dman the majority of the time.

Lol not True.  Sergachev was ranked higher. Macavoy and Chychrun had more hype to them.
Also Joulevi’s hype was built on riding the coattails of Tkatchuk, Marner and Dvorak during a really successful year for all 3. OJ was definitely the benefactor of that line and getting PP time with them.

imo missing on a top 5 pick is unforgivable and should have cost many scouts and the GM his job.

More often than not OJ ranked the highest on average. June 20th OJ was ranked 6th

No. Juolevi should of lost hype considering he played on a stacked team and his offensive numbers were nothing special.

Pretty much every scout and Brian Burke disagree with you. Considering I don't know if you have an extensive background in evaluating hockey talent, I'm going to just side with the guys who I know for sure, do!

He wasn't drafted for offensive numbers, that never was his game and offensive numbers are not everything when creating a team. You need guys on defense as well who can quiet a game down and close it out when it's close. That was exactly what Juolevi was drafted to do.

Thanks for again posting this...

It's frustrating, when folks almost suggest Benning decided to off board to pick chopped liver, when all the scouting services had him in the top 6-11....

(all of them flip flopping between OJ, Sergachev and Chychrun, as to which of the 3 would be the best D)...

The vest majority of this fan base were screaming for a Dman at the time, as we had nothing coming through.... Just like they were at the last draft.

OJ unfortunately didn't live up to expectations as injuries derailed his progression (maybe other issues, who knows), but at the time he was well worthy of being picked at 6, which every outlet agreed upon...

Hindsight is a magic thing....

Now that Mynio boy, is he going to become a thing?

Yes its great to see we finally have some depth at D prospects...

Now we can slowly turn our attention back towards forwards again this draft or next draft.

D men normally takes a bit longer, so we may have a crop coming up together in 3-4 years... Which would be perfect for the continuation of this core.

I really have a feeling this kid is gonna make it. Couldn't tell you why. He just has that vibe.

Guillaume Brisebois would be getting games this year if he didn't get hurt by that senseless Brandon Tanev hit in the preseason game.

I can totally see Sawyer trending that way, which would be a great outcome.
